EASTSPRING Investments Berhad has emerged as a substantial shareholder in Orkim Bhd after crossing the 5% threshold following a recent share acquisition.

According to a Bursa Malaysia filing today, Eastspring acquired 1.076 million shares on Jan 14, lifting its direct shareholding to 50.75 million shares, or a 5.075% stake in the company.

In a separate filing, parent company Prudential plc also reported an increase in its deemed interest in Orkim.

Prudential, through its subsidiaries Eastspring Investments Bhd and Eastspring Al-Wara’ Investments Bhd, acquired a total of 2.37 million shares across Jan 13 and Jan 14.

Following these transactions, Prudential’s total deemed interest in Orkim rose to 61.18 million shares, representing a 6.118% stake.

As the parent of both fund management companies, Prudential’s interest is classified as a deemed interest under Section 138 of the Companies Act 2016. — TMR
